The highest level of Leontyev’s hierarchical model of activity. Activities are social in nature and focus on cultural-historically formed motives. Collective activity has its own motive under which individual actions are subsumed and that they serve according to division of labor and communal rules guiding the activity. The motive is the object of activity. The motives, in turn may be used to distinguish activities from one another by determining the point of activity, i.e., why the participants are engaged in activity in question.
